BIO: Rev (Col) Joseph Martin, Jr., is a native of Kenner, Louisiana.  He entered the United States Marine Corps’ Officer Candidate School in March 1972, and upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.  He completed the Ground Officers’ Supply School in June 1973 and was assigned as the Supply Officer, Headquarters Company, 6th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  Upon promotion to Captain, he attended and completed the Amphibious Warfare School and was assigned as the Battalion S-3 Officer, 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  Colonel Martin has held various billets throughout his military career to include: Supply Officer, Marine Barracks, Vallejo, California, Supply Company Commander, 2nd Supply Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Assistant Division Supply Officer, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan, Task Analyst, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, DC, G-4 Plans Officer, Fleet Marine Forces, Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia, Officer in Charge, Sassy Management Unit, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Depot, Barstow, California.

Colonel Martin has completed the Ground Officers’ Supply School, Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and United States Naval War College. 

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Southern University at New Orleans, Louisiana, and a Master of Arts Degree in Strategic Planning from the United States Naval War College at New Port, Rhode Island, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Louisiana Bible College, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He was promoted to Colonel in June 1996, and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in September 2000. 


Since his retirement, Colonel Martin has been the Senior Marine Instructor of the Alexandria Senior High School, Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Program, Alexandria, Louisiana, and Pastor of the Second Union Missionary Baptist Church, Alexandria, Louisiana, for nearly sixteen years.  In 2012, Second Union Missionary Baptist Church completed the construction of a new $1.2 million dollar sanctuary.  In July 2017, Pastor Martin was elected as President of the United Educational Missionary Baptist Association, Inc.


Colonel Martin is married to Mrs. Iva L. Martin, and they have four children, Joseph Martin, III, Christopher E. Martin, Shawn E. Martin, and Joshua K. Martin.  They also have eight grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsea, Tony, Christopher, Briana, Tiffany, Daniel Joseph, and Brendyn, and one great-grandson, Carter.
